Jeff
was brought up on a diet of The Beatles, Paul Weller, David Bowie and
Bob Dylan, and music has been his passion from early childhood.
Since picking up a guitar as a teenager, he's played in a number
of bands, all the time working on his own material and gradually improving
as a musician and gaining confidence as a performer.
As he moved through life from Cardiff to Minneapolis, from Cambridge to London,
he picked up a variety of musical influences such as Elvis Costello, Bruce
Springsteen, Neil Young and Ron Sexsmith.
Then in 1999, he started playing his first solo performances. He soon teamed
up with Matt Webb on lead guitar and they started doing acoustic gigs, mostly
around London, and worked on recording a variety of original demo songs at Kite
Studios in Cambridge under the expert direction of Roger
Chatterton.
These songs contained a variety of
themes ranging from mellow love songs to wider social concerns, from the light-hearted
and tongue-in-cheek to the more thoughtful and introspective.
In
autumn 2000, he teamed up with Faraway Tree to record two electric
songs that formed the main songs of the Just
Me Alone EP.
In
2003, he started recorded his debut album at James Clark's Sound-Board studios with an assorted assembly of musicians including Gareth Davies
and Matt Webb. The sessions for the album were completed in October 2004,
and is set for release in early 2005.
